The Food Incubator of the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra (SUA) successfully presented its products during the Nitra Fair and Harvest Festival, held on Svätopluk Square and the pedestrian zone on August 16–17.
This was the first event outside the university premises where the public had the opportunity to purchase products from the Food Incubator, which operates under the AgroBioTech Research Centre. At the same time, visitors could learn more about the first university food brand in Slovakia. The assortment included various types of vegetable chips and teas. The Food Incubator was represented by Dr. Michal Mihaľa, Dr. Denis Bažány, and Bc. Lenka Zaťková.
“The interest in our products was very positive. People were attracted by the idea of innovative and healthier alternatives to common snacks. The vegetable chips appealed not only because of their taste, but also because they are products originating from a research and university environment,” said M. Mihaľa. He added that many visitors were curious about the production process and appreciated the added value of the products – combining tradition with modern approaches to food processing. “For us, it is an encouragement that this type of innovation has its place on the market, even among ordinary consumers,” he emphasised.
Vegetable chips are a more nutritious and healthier alternative to regular potato chips. They contain less fat and more vitamins, minerals, and fibre. For their preparation, the Food Incubator uses drying instead of frying, so the vegetables do not come into contact with high temperatures or heated oil. Their crispiness is achieved by a special technology.
The Food Incubator’s vegetable chips and teas are also available for purchase at the Snack Bar under the Aula at SUA.
