Reconstruction of SUA’s University Sports Center progressing as planned, pompletion expected in fall 2025.
The reconstruction of the University Sports Center at the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra (SUA) is proceeding according to schedule, with approximately 70 percent of the work already completed. Both athletes and the general public can look forward to several new features and upgrades.
The extensive renovation began in June 2024 and includes the replacement of windows, insulation, refurbishment of the façade, interior, roof, plumbing, ventilation, and lighting systems. The interior, including the sports hall, sauna, and gym, will be completely revamped. The flooring will be replaced, and locker rooms, showers, and restrooms will be fully renovated. The modernization also includes updates to the reception area, entrance turnstile system, and the parking lot in front of the facility.
The total investment amounts to €4.1 million, funded by the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic through the national Recovery and Resilience Plan. According to SUA Vice-Rector for Investment Development, Tomáš Tóth, the reconstruction is expected to be completed by August or September 2025. Afterward, the facility will undergo final inspections and approval for use. The grand reopening of the University Sports Center is anticipated for September or October 2025.
Among the new features will be completely rebuilt locker rooms, with direct access to the swimming pool via the showers. Additional locker rooms—such as those near the gym—will also have their own separate sanitary facilities. The gym area has been expanded into the space previously occupied by a bar, which will not be restored.
“This reconstruction will significantly improve the conditions for students, university staff, the Slávia SUA sports clubs, as well as for external partners, schools, clubs, and of course, the general public,” emphasized Vice-Rector Tóth. The construction works affect nearly the entire facility, with the exception of the swimming pool, which underwent a complete renovation in 2023 and is currently the most modern pool in Nitra. Due to the ongoing reconstruction, the pool is temporarily closed and will reopen along with the rest of the complex in the fall.
The modernization of the University Sports Center is part of the broader AgroForestry project, jointly implemented by the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra and Technical University in Zvolen. As part of the project’s investment phase, SUA is also developing an innovative agricultural machinery laboratory and a modern greenhouse system known as the Biodom.
