Portuguese Embassy Representatives Visit Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra
02.06.2026On 26 May, representatives of the Portuguese Embassy in Slovakia visited the Slovak University of Agriculture (SUA) in Nitra to explore opportunities for strengthening cooperation between the university and the Portuguese business sector in the areas of innovation, start-ups, and winemaking.
The delegation, consisting of Commercial Attaché Marta Pinheiro and Representative of the Portuguese Ambassador Luís Quartin Graça, was welcomed by Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and Internationalisation Lucia Palšová and Director of the Office for International Relations and Educational Programmes Vladislav Valach.
The meeting focused on current innovation trends, support for young talents and start-ups, technology transfer, and projects related to modern food processing and sustainable production. The Portuguese delegation showed particular interest in the university’s research and innovation infrastructure, including the AgroBioTech Research Centre, the Food Incubator, the Technology Transfer Centre, and the University Agricultural Enterprise, which serves as a valuable platform for testing innovations under real-world conditions.
Viticulture and winemaking emerged as a key area of mutual interest. With Portugal’s rich wine heritage and global reputation in the sector, both sides recognized strong potential for collaboration that would combine Slovak academic expertise with Portuguese tradition and advanced technologies. Such cooperation could lead to joint research, innovation, and educational initiatives in oenology and viticulture.
“The visit opened new opportunities for cooperation and helped identify areas where our expertise and capacities can complement each other. We look forward to developing concrete joint activities that will strengthen international collaboration and create benefits for both partners,” said Vladislav Valach.
