Creative Centre Opens Doors to High School Students
14.03.2025On March 12, the third-year students of the Secondary Vocational School of Veterinary Medicine in Nitra visited the Creative Centre of the Slovak Agricultural University in Nitra. They learned about the university, the Creative Centre, and the AgroBioTech Research Centre.
The Slovak Agricultural University, its faculties, selected departments, and especially study opportunities, were presented by the Vice-Rector for Education, Professor Milan Šimko. He also presented the results of last year's survey by the Ministry of Education entitled Rate it 2024, focused on students' opinions on the quality of education and the environment of Slovak universities, where the Slovak Agricultural University ranked fifth among twenty Slovak public universities. Student of the engineering programme Ľuboš Tekeljak informed the veterinary students about cynology and the cynology club that operates within the Slovak Agricultural University. He also brought a female of Bohemian Wire-haired Pointing Griffon named Ajda, with whom he achieves excellent results in domestic and international cynology competitions.
The activities of the AgroBioTech SUA Research Centre were presented by engineer Michal Mihaľ. He also presented a unique project focused on innovative food education for primary and secondary school teachers called FoodEducators, which is part of the EIT Food project in Slovakia. “The aim of the project, in which SUA is also involved, is to support educators to teach, engage and inspire young people about the food they eat. Another important goal of the project is to gain new knowledge on how to deepen educational experiences in the field of food, promote health and sustainability and motivate future generations to pursue a career in the agri-food sector,” said M. Michaľ. He also presented the project’s activities for this year. The programme included a tour of the Creative Centre led by associate professor Jakub Berčík and engineer Jakub Dežerický.
The high school students agreed that they are interested in the topics of interaction between humans and nature, most of them plan to continue their university studies in veterinary medicine, special animal husbandry or applied biology. One of them is Lenka Hrubšová from Nitra, who highly appreciated the wide range of study programmes at SUA, as well as the fact that the university has a very good reputation among students.
The Deputy Director of the Veterinary School for Practice and Education, Dr. Marcel Polička, emphasized that it is important for students to form their own opinion about the university. "Such events can direct, inspire and convince them about choosing a university. Our high school is a breeding ground for students for SUA. And as the well-known saying goes, it is better to see once than hear a hundred times," the teacher, who is also a graduate of our university, underlined the importance of the event.
