THIRD-COUNTRY NATIONAL

VISA
- If the planned stay in Slovakia exceeds 90 days, the applicant must apply for a national Type D visa, which is necessary for obtaining temporary residence.
- This visa application is submitted at the Slovak embassy or consulate in the applicant’s home country or in the country where they have residency.
- Before submitting the application, it is essential to contact the Slovak embassy or consulate to schedule an exact appointment.
- All necessary documents must be prepared, including those required in Slovakia for the temporary residence application.
- The visa is granted for 90 days, and the embassy has 30 days to decide after receiving the application.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR A NATIONAL TYPE D VISA APPLICATION:
- completed application form
- one color photograph (3 x 3.5 cm)
- valid passport
- fee (amount depends on the specific purpose of stay)
- document confirming the purpose of stay - acceptance letter for study
- criminal record extract
- proof of accommodation - e.g., confirmation from a lodging facility
- proof of financial coverage for the stay - e.g., bank statement for the last three months
All documents submitted with the national Type D visa application must comply with the same requirements as those for temporary residence applications, meaning they must be:
- Superlegalized or apostilled – according to the Hague Convention (for more information about the Hague Convention and the list of countries that have signed it, click here).
- Translated by an official translator – translations must be done by a translator from the official list of translators or a translator authorized by the Slovak embassy or consulate. Note: Not every embassy or consulate has the capacity and capability to provide such translations.
