EU CITIZEN
REGISTRATION OF RESIDENCE FOR EU/EFTA/SWISS CITIZENS
- it is necessary to visit the respective Foreign Police Department in person
- before the visit, it is mandatory to book an appointment via the online system
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
- completed application form Application for the Registration of EU Citizen Rights – must be in Slovak and signed by the applicant. The form is available under the name Application for the Renewal of Temporary Residence
- a valid passport or national ID card
- a document proving the purpose of stay – for example, a Hosting Agreement
- if it is not possible to prove that the applicant will be employed in Slovakia, a document proving financial security must be submitted – a bank account statement with a minimum amount of €273.99 for each month of stay
- proof of health insurance valid in Slovakia: a European Health Insurance Card or confirmation of insurance covering medical expenses in Slovakia
The Act on Residence of Foreigners does not impose an obligation on EU citizens to apply for a residence card; however, this option exists. In many situations, such as dealing with banks or insurance companies, having this document can significantly simplify the formalities of everyday life in Slovakia.
If you are interested in obtaining a residence card, known as the Residence Card for EU Citizens, the following must be submitted:
- two recent passport-sized photos – dimensions 3 x 3.5 cm
- proof of accommodation – an officially certified document in Slovak:
- declaration of ownership by the EU/EFTA/Swiss citizen (if they are the property owner)
- confirmation from an accommodation facility (hotel, hostel) about providing accommodation
- rental agreement with the property owner
- declaration from the property owner (individual or legal entity) about providing accommodation
- a fee in the form of a duty stamp: 10€ for issuance within 30 days or 39€ for issuance within 2 working days
- duty stamps can be purchased directly at the Foreign Police in a self-service machine or at the post office
