Student scientific conference at SUA created a space for young researchers

The Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra hosted a university day of student scientific activity on April 10. Students from all three levels of study participated in it. The event also offered an opportunity for high school students to present their first steps in scientific activity.
SUA has been organizing a student scientific conference for almost three decades. The aim of the conference is to support activities that deepen students' relationship with scientific knowledge and create a suitable environment for students to present the results of their scientific professional activity. It is organized in the areas of study fields in which university studies are carried out in accredited study programs.
At the Faculty of Agrobiology and Food Resources, there was a competition in two sections: Plant and Animal Production, Human and Animal Nutrition. 19 students from the first and second levels of study presented their works. Two of them were from India, and they are currently on an internship at the FAFR. The conference was competitive in nature and after the conclusion of the discussions in the individual sections, the three best works were awarded. At the same time, the students themselves participated in the evaluation, who selected one from each section to be awarded the Student Award.
34 students presented their works at the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences. In addition to students from the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences, the conference was also attended by four foreign students from Ghana, India, Egypt and Uganda studying at the Faculty of Biotechnology within the Erasmus Mundus Danube AgriFood Master program, one student from the University of Debrecen, two students from the Brno University of Technology, one student from Masaryk University in Brno and from Comenius University in Bratislava. Six high school students from the Piarist Gymnasium of St. Joseph of Kalazanský in Nitra, the Secondary Industrial School of Food Science in Nitra and the Samuel Mikovíni Combined School in Banská Štiavnica also participated. They presented the results of their work in four sections: Control and safety of the food chain and Innovations and trends in food technology, Applied biology and Biotechnology, Presentation of works by high school students.
At the Faculty of Economics and Management, students presented their works in two sections: Management and marketing, Economics and finance. A total of 13 students spoke. The committees also included experts from CLA Slovakia and Amazon, with whom FEM has been cooperating for a long time. The three best works in each section received financial awards.
The Faculty of European Studies and Regional Development had two sections. The first section, Regional development and EU policies, rural development, tourism and sustainable development (for students of the first and second degree of study), was attended by 11 students. Seven students participated in the section Joint student scientific conference of doctoral students of FESRD and FEM for students of the third degree of study.
At the Faculty of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering, three committees worked according to individual study programs: horticulture, landscape engineering, landscape and garden architecture. A total of 33 students from all three levels of study presented at the conference. Each participant received a certificate of participation and a small gift in the form of promotional items. The winners of the individual sections also received a financial reward.
The Faculty of Engineering organized a conference entitled Latest Trends in Agriculture, Mechanical Engineering and Waste Management. The discussion took place in two sections: Information Technologies and Mechanical Engineering, Transport and Agricultural Engineering. Traditionaly, a section for high schools was also created, in which six students from high schools in Nitra, Nové Zámky and Partizánske competed. A total of 31 students presented their works. The winners of each section received an award from the Slovak Welding Society and the absolute winner received an award from the Union of Scientific and Technical Societies. In addition to their excellent professional knowledge and skills, the students demonstrated in their papers a deep feeling for a green future.
After the end of the session, each participating student received a certificate of participation from the chairman of the evaluation committee. Abstracts of the contributions will be published in peer-reviewed online collections of abstracts.
